WORK to build a 34-metre shared bridge over Newcastle Road at Jesmond will begin next week.
Transport for NSW regional director Hunter Anna Zycki confirmed on Wednesday that the work will begin Monday.
The bridge will replace the existing pedestrian crossing and is part of the next stage of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass.
Work will run 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 5pm on Saturdays.
Some night and weekend work will be required, Transport for NSW confirmed.
Daracon were in August announced as the successful tenderer for the bridge's construction.
