Work is progressing on new Lidl due to open before Christmas

This picture shows work progressing on the new Lidl store set to open in Wollaton.

Replacing the old Waitrose, which closed last year, applications for jobs at the new Trowell Road supermarket are being accepted.

A Lidl spokeswoman said the new supermarket was due to open before Christmas.

She added: "Our ongoing expansion and store opening plans across Nottinghamshire underline our long-term commitment to the region.

"This is especially important now, recognising the extremely important role that supermarkets are playing in providing local communities with access to food supplies and essentials."

It is one of a number of new Lidl stores planned across the county.

A proposed operator has also been identified to run a gym earmarked for the site.

Nottinghamshire Live reported in February that a number of additional units were proposed as part of the site's revamp.

A Post Office could also reopen and there has been interest from several fish and chip shops, according to the property consultant FHP.
