Work is being done to get Cardiff city centre ready to open on Monday morning

Major changes are underway in Cardiff City Centre ahead of the reopening on Monday, June 22.

Three weeks ago the First Minister Mark Drakeford told non-essential businesses they should prepare to reopen.

Last Friday he confirmed that from tomorrow they would be given the green light.

However, the shopping experience in the Welsh capital is going to be very different compared to before the crisis.

Pictures from around the city centre show the huge changes that are being introduced as Cardiff prepares to welcome back shoppers.

What other changes are happening to get the city ready?

WalesOnline has put together this piece on all the changes you will see in Cardiff's city centre and how shops have prepared.

Part of the reopening will include road closures with Castle Street to be closed to allow "rest areas" to be put in place and to start building a covered, outdoor-seating area designed to help restaurants and cafes when possible.

From midday on Sunday:

  • Castle Street and Mill Lane will be closed in their entirety to private motor vehicles until further notice

  • Westgate St, Wood St, Lower St Mary’s St will be used for buses and access only. All residents living on these roads will be able to access their properties. A letter to affected city-centre residents/business will also be delivered on Saturday and on-site staff will be available to help.

  • Between Monday and Wednesday next week parking signage for inbound traffic to city centre car parks will be implemented.
