Work experience at Ridley Scott's office? In the week 19/04/10

Tell it your Way, a competition for film-makers, is offering entrants the chance to win a week's work experience at Ridley Scott Associates (RSA) offices in Los Angeles, New York, London or Hong Kong. The contest is inviting filmakers to submit a short film to accompany the Philips Parallel Lines series — a cinematic project where RSA directors created five very different films but all following the same six-line dialogue. Alien and Blade Runner director Sir Ridley Scott will be among the judging panel. Deadline for entries is 8 August.

JCB is recruiting again, and needs up to 200 new workers to meet an increased demand for products, reports BBC News. As well as taking on new shop-floor workers, the Rochester-based firm has agreed a three-year pay deal and begun to reintroduce overtime for employees.

Retailer Cath Kidson is expanding from its Godmanchester HQ to a site in Eaton Socon, Cambridgeshire, and creating 20 new jobs in the process. The Alpha Park, Priors Gate — which has been empty since 2007 — is to be extended and get improved access, so that Cath Kidston can relocate its main distribution telesales base. It is anticipated that, in time, 130 jobs will be created at the site, according to Cambridge News. Much further north in West Yorkshire, the retailer is also opening a new store which will create 15 new jobs, reports the Business Desk.

Yet another fresh wave of jobs in Ireland. In order to develop international contracts in the UK and US, Irish business process outsourcing firm VoxPro is creating 160 new graduate-level jobs in customer service, technical support, appointment management, back-office processing and telemarketing at its centre in Blackrock, County Cork, according to the Irish Times. This follows news, also from the Irish Times, that business processing company, Abtran, has plans to create 300 jobs over three years in management, business administration, finance, resource planning, IT and human resources, also in Cork.

Scotland's hospitality sector will get a boost when The Grand Central Hotel opens following a £20m refurbishment. According to BBC News, the hotel, due to reopen in Septermber has 150 full and part-time jobs for staff in conference and banqueting, reservations, maintenance, reception, kitchen, events and finance.
