Work begins to turn former curry house into a 'London-style Victorian pub' in West Bridgford

There's a long way to go but work is underway to transform a former Indian restaurant into a 'London-style Victorian pub'. The William Gunn will be opening in the former Delhi Nights, in Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford, opposite Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.

The name pays homage to one of Nottingham's most prolific sportsmen William Gunn, who played for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club from 1880 to 1904 and represented England in 11 test matches. He played football for Nottingham Forest, Notts County and England. He also co-founded the international cricket equipment brand Gunn and Moore.

Tom Holodynsky and Owen Roach are behind the new venue opposite Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. The duo already operate the successful city centre venues, Southbank City and The 1998 Club, as well as managing bars in the West Bridgford area for over 20 years.

Tom said: "We have been looking at the site since early March, finalising the lease took time as these things do, but it enabled us to get lots of planning done regarding the refurbishment and brand creation. This has enabled us to hit the ground running and get the fit out works started ASAP, in fact, less than 36 hours after signing the lease.

"There is a lot of work to do to create the vision we have for the site, a lot of the work so far is the boring stuff the customer doesn't see, but as is always the case with these refurbishments it will soon take shape and we're looking forward to unveiling it all." A menu of classic British dishes and and bistro favourites will be served. The aim is to open by the end of August.
