Work begins on revamping Cleland Primary School's playground

Pupils at Cleland Primary School are set to have a great new place to have fun at breaktimes after work to transform the playground got underway.

It follows on from a recent £1 million extension at the school which included new dining facilities and classroom.

As work began, pupils were joined at the school by the area’s four local councillors - Louise Roarty, Cameron McManus, Nicky Shevlin and Robert John McKendrick - to see for themselves what work is being done.

The school’s headteacher Jan Barclay said: “Our pupils are so excited about this news and can’t wait for it to be ready.”

The improvements will see the playground extended to provide pupils with access to more outdoor space and there will be better opportunities to use the outdoor learning areas such as the forest school.

In addition, there will be a new security gate at main entrance and pupils will have more access to the hard standing playground area.

Councillor Frank McNally, North Lanarkshire Council’s convener of Education and Families, added: “I’m delighted to announce that the revamp of the school’s play area is starting and I’m sure pupils will love exploring the new outdoor play spaces.”
