Worcester v Ospreys team news as Justin Tipuric returns

Justin Tipuric returns to skipper the Ospreys for their European Challenge Cup encounter against Worcester Warriors at Sixways on Saturday evening (8pm).

Also coming back into the starting line-up after international duty is Owen Watkin.

The pair are among four changes from the side that defeated Castres 39-15 in Swansea, with Adam Beard featuring at lock and Reuben Morgan-Williams getting the nod at scrum-half.

Dan Evans also continues his comeback after injury.

Evans marked his return to action with an assured performance against Castres that featured a try. With Mat Protheroe and George North on the wings, he was part of a balanced back three that offered a counter-attacking threat.

“It’s an exciting backline to be involved with,” said Evans.

“Mat is quick and has gone very well, while Kieran Williams has been catching the eye, too.

"Stephen Myler has come in at fly-half this year. He’s steered us in a way which perhaps we lacked last year.

“The experience he’s picked up over his career has been invaluable and he's helping the youngsters come through.

“He also puts us in the right areas and makes sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves.”

Wayne Pivac on knowing his best Wales XV

At 32, Evans’ long-cherished ambitions of adding to the two Wales caps he won in 2009 look unlikely to be realised.

The former Scarlet will probably still hold out a dot of hope, mind.

But nowadays he stresses his main goals are centred around the Ospreys.

“After the past 12 months, with the injuries I've had and the Covid situation generally, I just want to make the best contribution I can to the Ospreys week-in, week-out,” he said.

“For me, it’s about getting as fit as I can, playing as well as I can and enjoying my rugby.

“All I want to do is play games and have a smile on my face.”

No one at the Ospreys will complain if Evans holds the form he showed against Castres.

As well as scoring his try, the back-three man kicked nicely out of hand, joined the line, passed and made nine thrusts forward which yielded more than 50 metres for his side, his enthusiasm still obvious despite the bumpiest year of his career during which he has suffered injuries, endured a suspension for an illegal tackle and been in lockdown.

“Sometimes when you can’t train or play you feel like you don’t want to be there again,” he said.

“But for me it’s the opposite.

“When I’m away from the environment it lights the fire in my belly again.

“I just want to get back and play rugby.”
