Wor Flags new display set for Newcastle vs Tottenham is stuck in Germany

Wor Flags' plans for Sunday's game against Tottenham have been thrown into disarray after the group's new flag got stuck in Germany.

The group have been working across the week up at St James' Park for their first display since May 2019 - and had hoped to unveil a brand new giant flag to mark the sale of the club to the Saudi-backed consortium.

Wor Flags had said they wouldn't return until Mike Ashley sold the club.

The planned display - which Chronicle Live has seen but is keeping under wraps - was set to fly on the Gallowgate before the 4.30 pm kick-off on Sunday.

However several delays have meant the group now face a race against time to get it to Tyneside in time - it's currently stuck in two parts, one in Tamworth and the other in Cologne.

The group hope it will arrive in the United Kingdom tonight and they may be able to collect it but it may be a case that this new flag is shown to the masses at the following home game against Chelsea.

Toon fans in both Cologne and Tamworth are offering to help the group collect the display.

If that is the case, the giant surfer flag made up of names of people who donated towards its cost, and which was last seen against Liverpool in May 2019. is set to fly.
