Woolworths is 'returning to the high street'...apparently

After all of its 807 stores sadly shut their doors between 2008 and 2009, Woolworths could be making the high street come back that shoppers have been begging for.

An account claiming to be Woolworths announced the news on Twitter, with a tweet that could quite literally be one of the only good things to happen this year.

The account claiming to be Woolworths wrote: "Here to save 2020! Woolworths is coming back to your high street, as a physical store! A couple of legal things to get sorted, but we’re full steam ahead at Woolworths HQ. We want to get this right, so we need your help. What do you want at your UK #YourWoolworths?"

It added: "Throughout this week, we’ll have announcements and chances to win gift cards for Woolworths and gift cards for other retailers on your high street. Welcome back to Woolworths!"

Shoppers are understandably very excited about the announcement, and are already reminiscing about the 'good old days' when Woolies was open.

Responding to the tweet, one shopper wrote: "Don't forget vinyl records, part of Woolworth's history and they are back."

"I want pick 'n mix Lots of gift items Woolworths being a quick place to jump on and get last minute gifts before Christmas or someone's birthday was absolutely a life saver so many times Oh, and you gotta do the whole haberdashery thing," said somebody else.

"Ds, vinyl and pick n mix! Specifically those giant strawberry cremes you used to do," wrote a third.

A fourth person said: "Great news, just in time for Xmas! Please make sure you have enough SEGA Master System games in stock."

The news is yet to be officially confirmed, so they might just be pulling our leg, but even if it's not true, at least it's cheered us up by reminding us of life long before the pandemic.
