It's now nearly 30 years since Woody and Buzz Lightyear came to life in the original Toy Story. And for kids young and old they remain instantly recognisable.
Voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen ever since the release of that original Pixar film in 1996, it was unclear what their fate would be after Woody left his friends behind at the end of Toy Story 4. But, according to reports, the sheriff and space ranger will return.
According to Sky News, Disney Pixar's chief creative officer, Pete Docter, told Variety: "We have another Toy Story, so Woody and Buzz are back. And we have a few other projects, but it's always a balance."
Tim Allen confirmed earlier this year that he would return to voice Buzz. Tom Hanks has not yet confirmed that he will be back as Woody.
Allen wrote on Twitter: "See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond!"
The ending of the fourth film left many people shocked, including Hanks. In 2019 he said that Allen had messaged him to say he was still "recovering" after recording it.
Hanks said at the time: "I actually had a transcendental moment of going back to 1991 when we started all of this. I was in the same room, with the same engineers, the same people and I had to take a moment to collect myself."

With the original cast being associated with the films for so long, producers Jonas Rivera and Mark Nielsen agreed that it was an "emotional" end.
Rivera said: "We knew we had to go pretty far to make this movie worthy of the first three."
A release date has not yet been confirmed for Toy Story 5.
