Woodstock legend and anti-war activist dies aged 84

  • Psychedelic rock legend Joseph Allen “Country Joe” McDonald has died at the age of 84 in Berkeley, California.
  • He passed away on Saturday, 7 March, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease, as confirmed by his wife, Kathy.
  • McDonald was best known as the frontman of the 1960s group Country Joe and the Fish, which he co-founded in 1965.
  • He famously led the anti-Vietnam War protest anthem “I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-to-Die Rag,” including the iconic “Fish Cheer,” at the 1969 Woodstock festival.
  • Throughout his career spanning over half a century, McDonald was a prominent social activist, releasing over 40 solo albums and advocating for Vietnam War veterans.
