Woods: East Kilbride determined to seal title against defending champs Spartans

East Kilbride winger Paul Woods reckons the chance to clinch the Lowland League title against defending champions Spartans can help his side get over the line.

Kilby blew the opportunity to wrap it up on Saturday when they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Cumbernauld Colts.

But tonight they will get a second bite at clinching the crown when they host Spartans at K-Park.

EK need two points from their final four games and only a win will do if they are to put the trophy beyond the reach of nearest rivals BSC Glasgow, who are 11 points back.

Spartans pipped EK to the title on the final day of last season, so it's a chance for the champions-elect to deliver some payback to Dougie Samuel's side.

Woods said: "That's an added incentive for us and maybe that will help win it this time.

"The boys don't really need any more encouragement to win the league, but after what happened last season all the boys that went through that will be looking forward to this one.

"It's good that the game is coming so quickly after Saturday. If we'd had to wait a week that feeling of frustration we have would take longer to put to bed.

"The sooner we can get the title won the better."

The draw with Colts was the first time East Kilbride failed to score at home in the league since a 1-0 defeat to Edinburgh University in December 2017.

And Woods admitted they were nowhere near the heights that have seen them win 20 of their 24 games so far this season.

The ex-Stranraer player added: "Colts set up well on Saturday, but we were doing things we wouldn't normally do.

"We were a wee bit desperate at times to get the ball in the box and we were trying too hard to get the goal.

"If we'd got one I reckon we would have gone on to get two or three.

"But nobody was too down about it because we knew we'd still have chance to win it.

"Hopefully we do that against Spartans and we can start planning for the play-offs."
