Police investigating reports of shots being fired were today seen searching an area of woodland in Wavertree.
A firearm was found at Wavertree Sports Park at around 11.30am on Sunday by officers carrying out a search on Wellington Road.
It came after reports that a gun had been fired on Wellington Road on Friday, December 17.

A weapon was recovered for forensic examination on Sunday and enquiries are currently being carried out.
One man and two women were arrested on suspicion of possession of a section one firearm on Friday.

Merseyside Police today confirmed the women have now been released on bail, while the male suspect, Saeed Ahmed, has been charged.
The 39-year-old of Wellington Road, Wavertree, was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
He was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: “Thanks to the vigilance of our officers investigating this incident we have recovered a dangerous weapon that could have caused serious injuries or worse in this community.
“Vital information from the community also helped us to uncover the weapon. I would like to thank the public and ask that they continue to be our eyes and ears in this investigation and report any information they have to police.”
“Every weapon we recover is one less out there on the streets that could be used to cause fear, intimidation or harm.”
