Woodie's DIY respond to customers waiting on online deliveries with limit on orders

Woodie's DIY have extended their product delivery time to 14 days due to the high demand during the pandemic.

The DIY store has been closed since late March but has been doing home deliveries where possible.

Many customers have been tweeting the company that they've been waiting more than 10 days for their shopping to arrive but the company has stressed they are under huge demand.

In a statement on their website the store bosses say: "We are now accepting orders on a limited range of products for home delivery.

"Due to unprecedented customer demand, there is a limit on the number of orders we can accept daily. Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time."

Delivery lead time has been updated to 14 days and there are currently no click and collect services due to shops being closed.

Hardware stores have been closed since last month but there are hopes they could be one of the first things to open.

There was some confusion over whether business could return to normal last week when the new garda powers classed hardware stores as "essential".

But a clarifying statement was issued by the Department of Health which said: "Hardware and other stores shouldn’t be open to the general public.

Simon Harris says there will be 'no return to normal life' after restrictions lifted

"Such outlets are not to open except on the emergency and/or delivery basis as set out in the updated retail services list. That list is unchanged."

And speeaking on RTÉ’s This Week programme on Sunday, Business Minister Heather Humphreys said: "It's not the case that hardware stores should be open to the general public.

"But if you need something as an emergency, for example, if you have a burst pipe in your house, or if there's a hole in your roof and the rain is coming in, or the fridge gives up.

"Obviously, in emergency cases like that, you and your tradesman are going to need to be able to access certain materials from the hardware shops to fix the problem.

"So I want to stress in cases like that, it should be done by delivery or on an emergency call up basis.

"So basically if there's an emergency or you need to get something the hardware stores can provide that to you."
