The Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions following a crash.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision at around 2.30pm on Saturday.
Following the crash the road has been closed between Tintwhistle and Crowden.
Officers from the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit are currently on the scene dealing with the incident.
It is unclear if anybody has been injured at this stage.
Queues of traffic are building in the area as cars are diverted away from the incident.
Drivers travelling between Manchester and South Yorkshire are being advised to take alternative routes.
A tweet from Highways England said: "A628 Woodhead Pass closed in both directions between Tintwhistle and Crowden B6105 due to a traffic collision.
"Derbyshire RPU are on scene dealing with the incident."
