Woodhead Pass closed due to a lorry fire

Woodhead Pass has been closed this morning due to a lorry fire.

There's heavy traffic due to the blaze between A57 Mottram Moor near Gun Inn in Hollingworth and B6105 Glossop turn off, Crowden.

Driver crossing the Pennines are being advised to use the M62 instead.

Emergency services are currently on the scene.

Highways England said it's thought the road may be closed 'for some time'.

The agency tweeted: "@DerbyshirePRPU and @derbyshire FRS are dealing with a HGV fire on the #WoodheadPass #A628 around #Crowden

"It is anticipated this may be closed for some time."

Derbyshire Police tweeted: "We are currently dealing with an incident on Woodhead Pass.

"The road will be closed from The Gunn Inn at Hollingworth, and traffic is being diverted onto the A57 and B6105. Thank you for your patience."
