Woodgate reveals Shearer warning that silenced Bellamy after he 'hammered' Newcastle legend

Jonathan Woodgate has opened up on the rare occasion that Craig Bellamy was silenced after Alan Shearer warned his Newcastle United team-mate he would 'bury him' if he disrespected him again.

Shearer and Bellamy struck up a fine partnership together under Sir Bobby Robson in the days when Newcastle were playing in Europe and regularly finishing in the top four.

Bellamy's lightning pace complemented Shearer's deadliness in front of goal and the Newcastle legend even went as far as to say his strike partner helped prolong his career after he lost a yard.

However, the pair did not always see eye to eye off the field and Bellamy was certainly never one to mince his words in the dressing room - even with the club captain.

Woodgate may have only spent 18 months at Newcastle, but the former England international never forgot the day Bellamy was put in his place.

"Bellamy used to give him a bit, like hammer him," Woodgate told the Open Goal podcast.

"I'd be thinking to myself, 'F------ hell! Who are you talking to? It's Alan Shearer!' Bellers doesn't give a f---. He was like, 'F------ hell! You need to play me in here'.

"One day Al went, 'Listen, you little c---. You f------ say that to me again, I'll f------ bury you'. Bellers s--- his pants. He put him on his toes to be fair to him."
