A man is fighting for life after being shot in the chest at an east London house owned by top comedian Russell Kane.

Police were called to Malvern Drive, Woodford Green, a quiet residential street of large family homes, just after 11pm on Thursday.

Officers, armed police and paramedics found the victim, who is in his 40s, suffering gunshot injuries.

He was taken to a hospital in central London, where he was in a critical condition on Friday morning.

No arrests have been made as the Met continues its investigation.

According to the Land Registry, the property where the incident took place is owned by writer and comedian Mr Kane, and neighbours claim tenants are currently renting it out.

Mr Kane's spokeswoman said: "Russell's thoughts are with the victim and his family at this terrible time.

"No further comments will be made whilst the incident is being investigated by the police."

The shooting comes amid a spate of gun crime in the capital in the past week.

On Sunday night, Kwasi Mensah-Ababio, 26, was shot dead in Wembley, north-west London.

In the early hours of that day, a 27-year-old man was shot dead in Leyton.

And on Friday last week, 32-year-old Craig Small was shot dead in Wembley.
