Wooden structures on Perth's High Street draw a mixed response

Perth and Kinross Council has started installing wooden structures on the High Street in a bid to make the area safer for pedestrians.

The barriers have been erected as part of the Spaces for People project, which has seen the council bring in measures to improve social distancing in busy areas.

However, the work has gained a mixed reception, with one resident telling the PA they looked “ugly”.

Others have welcomed it because it will allow outdoor seating for some businesses on the street.

The Spaces for People project saw the council receiving £1.1 million to bring in measures in Perth and other towns and burghs.

Measures have included widening pavements, temporary speed limit reductions, and altering traffic lights to make it easier for people to keep their distance and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

It is also hoped it will encourage more people to take up active travel.
