Wooded area to be taped off 'for a number of weeks' in Cheadle as police conduct search

An area of woodland in Cheadle could be cordoned off for 'a number of weeks' as police carry out searches.

A pathway that links Carrs Avenue and Sherborne Road together was first blocked off by police on Monday morning, February 7.

People living nearby say they were told that the area would be closed for 'a number of weeks' as part of an 'ongoing investigation'.

It is understood the walkway was first taped off at around 8am as police notified people living nearby.

There are unconfirmed reports that police are conducting the search in relation to a missing persons case from 'many years ago'.

Pictures show police tape at both ends of the pathway and various officers at the scene.

One person living nearby said that police knocked on her door at around 9.30am to alert her about the search.

"The police all started arriving at about 8 this morning and then knocked on my door about an hour later," she said.

"An officer told me they expect to be there for quite some time, a number of weeks, carrying out their searches.

"It’s the site of an old farmhouse, banking and wooded area that they seem to be cutting back and searching.

"I was told they were looking for a missing persons body from many years ago.

"They apologised for any concern or disruption and said that if we needed anything or had any concerns we could go and see any of them. "

Officers from the GMP Stockport division are understood to be carrying out the searches as part of an 'ongoing investigation.'

No further details are yet known, or have been released by police.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
