KOCHI: “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” You might have heard and even tried the famous tongue-twister, but the question here is how fast and how many times can you properly pronounce these words within a minute?
Well, here is Anagha Praveen, an eight-year-old girl from Kochi, who could repeat the woodchuck tongue-twister, considered one of the most difficult ones, 20 times a minute. Her feat has so far secured her titles in India Book of Records, Asia Book of Records and Universal World Records for the maximum repetitions of the Woodchuck tongue-twister in a minute.
Anagha Praveen, a class III student of Craft World School, has always been fascinated by the English language. “She loves trying tongue-twisters,” said her father, Praveen Thomas, chief operating officer at Cric-Clubs, a cricket technology company.
“She loves reading, writing simple stories and poems and watching a few series for children helped her to improve her language skills. It was during the pandemic and subsequent lockdown that she started spending more time on her favourite hobby — trying tonguetwisters,” he said.
“We support her to improve her skills, and playing tonguetwisters has become a routine at home and even while driving. We first applied for the India Book of Records. After they recognised her with the title Grand Master, we tried for Asia Book of Records and Universal World Records too,” said her mother Mridula Praveen, principal of Craft World School, Kochi.
It was a bit difficult for Anagha in the beginning, but she was not ready to give up. “First I write the tongue twister on a piece of paper, and then try saying it. Slowly I try to repeat it without any errors. After that, I increase the speed. I love reading books and have completed around 100 books so far,” Anagha said.
