SAMUT PRAKAN: A combined task force seized processed wood with a face value of least 15 million baht from a cargo truck in Bang Phli district on Friday morning. The wood was destined for another country.
The seizure of the wood followed Thursday’s raid on three sawmills in Ayutthaya province on suspicions a gang of poachers might have stored illegally cut logs there.
The task force of forestry officials, police and soldiers, then tracked down a suspected cargo truck from Nan to Pathum Thani on Thursday night. The officers managed to seize a large number of logs when the truck stopped at a yard in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan on Friday morning, said Cheewaphap Cheewatham, who heads the Royal Forest Department's Phayak Phrai forest protection team.
The seized wood, mostly pradu and ching chan, had a face value of at least 15 million baht. The wood was destined for another country, said Mr Cheewaphap.
The investigation was being extended to find those involved.
