Dramatic video and photos of the blaze in Acacia Road, Wood Green, were shared online, with the emergency call made just before 10pm on Wednesday.
Around 20 people were evacuated by fire crews using breathing apparatus and three people were treated by London Ambulance Service at the scene.

London Fire Brigade said 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters were at the scene of the fire in a four-storey building containing maisonettes.
All of the second and third floor was alight, as was part of the roof.
One witness, who said the fire was behind his mum's house, wrote on Twitter: "If you have relatives living in the block of flats between Acacia Road and Winkfield Road in Wood Green, please reach out to them.
"Fire spreading rapidly and only 1 firehose trying to contain it."

After the fire was under control, Mike King also tweeted: "Took the roof off and one flat destroyed.
"Makes you grateful for everything you have. Peace and love to all."
Lloyd Barnes, who lives behind the flats, said: "Thank God everyone is safe and everyone evacuated."
The Brigade was called at 9.58pm, with crews from Tottenham, Hornsey, Edmonton, Holloway, Stoke Newington and Southgate fire stations at the scene.
The fire was under control at midnight and the cause is under investigation.
The building is understood to be called Erica House and is reportedly home to a number of elderly residents.
It is reported that crews were called out to another fire in a flat in the same block earlier in the evening.
