Wood-burning stove sparks blaze at flat above shops in Burnage

Firefighters were called out after a blaze broke out at a flat above a parade of shops in south Manchester.

The drama unfolded on Green End Lane in Burnage shortly after midday today (Thursday).

Three fire engines attended the scene, at the row of shops opposite the Aldi store.

A fire had started in a flat on the stretch Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.

"The incident involved a faulty flue of a wood burning stove which was discharging smoke into the roof space of the building" they said in a statement.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire and cleared smoke from the property."

There were no reports of anyone being injured.

Crews were on the scene for around an hour and a half.
