Wood has been appointed by Luxcara as owner’s engineer on its Önusberget wind farm development in Sweden.
Upon completion, the 753MW project is set to become Europe’s largest wind farm.
The development will play a substantial role in supporting Sweden’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2045.
GE Renewable Energy is providing up to 137 of its Cypress 5.5-158 wind turbines to the project.
Luxcara has already started infrastructure work, and GE will begin installing turbines in July.
Andy Hemingway, president of energy, innovation and optimisation at Wood, said: “We have supported around 20% of global wind power generation capacity with our design, optimisation, construction, and operation expertise, and we are delighted to now be partnering with Luxcara on this flagship project.”
Since 2019, Wood’s team has provided planning, technical and management support throughout the project’s pre-construction phase.
As part of the new contract, Wood will provide owner’s engineering services, including establishing a full-time site presence to monitor the quality and progress of the works.
This latest contract adds to Wood’s long-term support of some of Sweden’s largest scale wind farm developments, drawing on its experience in the planning, design, financing, construction, operation, and optimisation of renewable technology.
The Aberdeen-based firm provides consulting, projects and operations solutions in more than 60 countries, employing around 40,000 people.
