Wonderkids involved as Frank Lampard shows his influence - Things noticed from Chelsea training

It has been a busy week for Chelsea and Frank Lampard as they step up preparations for the start of the new Premier League season.

Three new players have arrived at Stamford Bridge within the last seven days.

Ben Chilwell completed his move from Leicester City for a fee of £50 million, and he has since been joined by Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva, who have joined on free transfers.

Injury may prevent Chilwell from joining up with his teammates for the first few weeks of his time at the club, while Sarr and Silva may have to undergo a two-week quarantine before joining up with the squad.

While hard work is going on in the background as Chelsea look to complete more business, the players are putting the work in on the Cobham training ground.

Here are three things we noticed from training this week.

Wonderkids involved

The new signings at Chelsea mean that competition will be fierce within the squad come next season.

The Blues have been praised for their use of young players under Frank Lampard, but it may have just become harder for academy products to break into the team in the upcoming season.

However, they are being given the chance to impress.

Luke McCormick and Ethan Ampadu, Conor Gallagher, and Jake Clarke-Salter have all been pictured taking part in first-team training this week, with the former not afraid to challenge Timo Werner for the ball.

Frank Lampard shows his influence

Lampard has had a successful time at Chelsea so far since arriving back at the club last summer.

The Blues’ legend led the club to a Champions League finish and an FA Cup final in his first season in charge, despite working under a transfer ban last summer.

Most of the former midfielder’s work is done on the training pitch at Cobham, and pictures show how hands-on he is in sessions, with Werner listening intently to his new manager.

Caballero tries something new

Chelsea are on the search for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Kepa Arrizabalaga had a disappointing season this season, leading him to be dropped on two occasions throughout the campaign.

Should the Blues fail to bring in a new shot-stopper during the transfer window, it will be a straight shootout between Kepa and Willy Caballero for the starting spot against Brighton and Hove Albion.

And a picture from training shows the latter trying an acrobatic effort with his foot high above his head to keep out a shot in order to impress Lampard ahead of the start of the season.
