Wonderkid trains with Arsenal ahead of potential move from English lower leagues

Non-league striker Tyger Smalls has revealed he spent five days training with Arsenal Under-23s ahead of a possible move to the Gunners.

Smalls, a product of the Tottenham academy, is currently on the books of ninth tier club Saffron Walden Town having joined them from Haverhill Town, for whom he scored 15 goals in 24 appearances this season.

Earlier this month he spent time with Steve Bould's Under-23 side though whether that contact with lead to academy chief Per Mertesacker offering the 17-year-old full terms at Arsenal remains to be seen.

Posting on Twitter, Smalls said: "Good five days training with Arsenal U23s. Great experience with the first team as well!"

Arsenal are not the only major club to have shown an interest in Smalls, who spent time with Serie A club SPAL earlier in the season.

Smalls says he scored 197 goals during his time with Tottenham's Academy, who he represented in the U10 and U11 age groups.

His manager at Saffron Walden, Jason Maher, said of Smalls: "He has developed physically, and I don't have any doubts that he will be a professional, but it's important that he continues to do what he's doing and remain grounded.

"I don't see any reason why he won't be with us for the remainder of the season, though. Then again, if Arsenal come knocking tomorrow, I don't think Saffron Walden will be able to compete!"

Smalls is represented by London-based agent Nick Maytum, who has previously brought highly-rated South American prospects to Europe including Martin Satriano, a Uruguayan forward who joined Inter Milan from Nacional.
