Wonderkid makes contract claim as Arsenal could end four-year pursuit for Wenger transfer target

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Tuesday, May 19.

Arsenal could seal Wenger transfer target

Arsenal have joined the race to sign Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy this summer and will not be put off by the Frenchman’s £15m price tag, according to The Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger wanted to sign Guirassy while he was on loan at second-division Auxerre four years ago, according to ESPN FC.

Arsenal have joined West Ham and Bournemouth in the race to sign £15m Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy.

The centre-forward is no stranger to the Gunners as either. ESPN claim Arsene Wenger wanted to sign Guirassy while he was on loan at second-division Auxerre in 2016.

Far more established these days, the 6ft 2in forward has turned heads in the Premier League with his goals in France.

It’s perhaps a sign of the uncertainty surrounding Arsenal’s current duo of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emirck-Aubameyang that they are once again being linked with the Frenchman.

The perfect alternative to Upamecano?

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah will be closely watched by several European sides, not least those in England, now that the Bundesliga has returned.

Arsenal are desperate for a centre-back as the ageing David Luiz and Sokratis Paspasthathopoulos struggled for form this season and the Gunners leaked goals.

Well-built and standing at close to 2m tall, Tah has long been tipped for a move to the highest level, and as the continent’s financial power houses fight over Dayot Upamecano, Arsenal could slip under the radar and strike an early deal for Tah.

He is understood to have a release clause of £35m, but given his age and ability, that looks like great value for money.

The full assessment on Tah can be read here.

Arsenal agree new contract for top 'keeper

Youth team goalkeeper James Hillson says he has signed a second professional contract with Arsenal, having signed his first last July.

The deal represents the great faith the club have in his ability to rise through the ranks in north London.

Arsenal have not confirmed the deal but posting on his Instagram Hillson wrote: "Delighted to announce that I have extended my contract with Arsenal, can’t wait to get back and continue my grind!"

Hillson is currently battling for the number one shirt with Karl Hein in Steve Bould’s U23 side.

At 28 years old, Bernd Leno may be the Gunners first choice for years to come, but Hillson might be ready and waiting for his time when it comes.
