Wonderkid linked to Newcastle United open to transfer after Copa America

Piero Hincapié is one of a host of defenders Newcastle United have already been linked with this summer.

Steve Bruce is reportedly keen on recruiting a ball-playing centre-back this summer, with Celtic's Kristoffer Ajer and Arsenal's William Saliba among those understood to be under consideration.

However, Mundo Deportivo claim the Magpies are one of numerous European clubs running the rule over Hincapié who is currently starring for Ecuador at the Copa America.

The 19-year-old started all four of Gustavo Alfaro's side's group matches, with a quarter-final tie against Argentina to come this weekend.

The teenager's father Jesus recently confirmed offers have been received from Europe, and outlined his son's ambition to one day play for Real Madrid.

Competition for the defender's signature could be fierce, with heavyweights such as Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and PSG also credited with an interest.

Hincapié, who currently represents Argentine Primera División club Talleres, has now confirmed his desire to take the 'leap' into European football if the opportunity presents itself.

He told ESPN : "A player dreams of going abroad and playing in better leagues. If the opportunity to leave is given, it would be best to take that leap.

"I haven't talked to [chairman Andres] Fassi yet. I can't promise the fans that I'm going to stay, you never know what's going to happen."
