Wonderkid has chance to follow in footsteps of three Chelsea stars after announcement made

Chelsea have announced that Tino Livramento has been named their 2020/21 Academy Player of the Year by the coaching staff and senior management following a strong season with the club’s development squad.

The defender, who has been at the club since he was an under-9s player, now has the chance to follow in the footsteps of three previous winners who have all made the successful step-up to being regulars in the first-team.

Mason Mount (2017), Reece James (2018) and Billy Gilmour (2020) have undoubtedly all impressed under both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, and it appears that Livramento could also be ready to take his chance over the next few seasons.

Having started in 26 of 30 eligible games, the Croydon-born teenager has made the most appearances out of any Chelsea youngster across every academy competition this season, scoring two goals and recording a number of assists along the way.

His performances have even already caught Tuchel’s eye. That much has been evidenced by him being named on the bench for Premier League games against Manchester City and Arsenal.

He has a long way to go to match the impact of the three mentioned above at senior level – especially after the season Mount has had – but the future looks bright for yet another player in Chelsea’s academy, and it bodes well for stronger squad depth and competition.

Let’s hope that Livramento can make a real lasting impression.
