Wonderkid confirms Arsenal training invitation as Gunners scout's long-term vision takes shape

Arsenal appear to be looking at the Scandinavia transfer market.

On Thursday evening it was revealed that the Gunners are locked in talks to sign young Norwegian winger George Lewis following a successful trial period with the club.

That's according to Goal.

The report also states that should the deal go through as planned, Lewis will initially link up with Steve Bould's Under-23s side, opposed to following in the footsteps of the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Matteo Guendouzi, who immediately earned places in the first-team.

And it would appear that George isn't the only youngster to be on Arsenal's radar.

19-year-old midfielder Ismet Lushaku, who currently plays for Swedish outfit AFC Eskilstuna, has revealed that he was invited to train with the Gunners' U23's before head coach Mikel Arteta tested positive for COVID-19.

"They had been looking at me for a while and wanted to see me in their environment," he told Fotbollskanalen . "I then received an invitation to go and train and play with the U23 team.

"Three days before I would go Mikel Arteta received corona and after that I was told that no one could come in anymore for trial games and those who were there for trial games should go home, as they did not want to risk me being infected or that I could be infected and infect people there.

"Then there was nothing right then. They still have contact with my agents."

Arsenal's interest in players in the Scandinavia region is likely down to John Jensen who returned to the club as a scout last summer and outlined his long-term vision.

“It is true that I have to work for Arsenal. On July 1, I started my job as head coach for the club in Scandinavia," he said. "Initially, I need to find talents for the club's academy, but in the long term, I hope to contribute with scouting players to the Premier League squad.

“After more than 20 years as a coach, I feel that I have my finger on the pulse of the football industry."
