Wonderkid agrees new Arsenal deal after Gunners beat Chelsea and Liverpool to his signature

Highly-rated Arsenal prospect Marcelo Flores has signed scolarship terms with the Gunners after an impressive start to his fledgling career in north London.

Flores joined from Ipswich in March 2019 and at just 16 years of age has already carved out a role for himself in Ken Gillard's Under-18 side, for whom he has made five appearances in the league and FA Youth Cup. In his early appearances for Arsenal U16s he caught the eye, particularly at the prestigious Istria Youth Cup, where the Gunners finished third.

The Mexican youngster, a No.10 by trade who is adept on either flank, was also called up to his country's U18s earlier this year as he continues to progress beyond his age group.

Writing on his Instagram Flores said he had "had a really fun football season", adding that he "can't wait to start full-time next year". Though neither club nor player have officially confirmed the deal football.london understands Flores has signed scolarship terms.

Flores' deal comes days after his sisters announced that they would be leaving Arsenal this summer. Silvana, 18, and youngster sister Tatiana have both joined Chelsea.

Arsenal's London rivals and Liverpool were among those clubs who were vying for Flores' signature when he left Ipswich last summer before he opted to join the Gunners.

Recent weeks have brought the customary news of comings and particularly goings at Arsenal following the early conclusion of the academy football seasons. U18 prospects Matthew Dennis and Alfie Matthews are expected to leave whilst U16 goalkeeper Pedro Virginia has left to join Porto.

"Dear Gunners, it was with great honor that I represented such a great club," he wrote on Instagram. "I am grateful to all the club’s staff, coaches and team mates.

"Thank you Arsenal."

Virginia's older brother Joao had also come through Arsenal's academy system and is now on the books of Everton.

The suspension of youth football also prompted Arsenal to allow the rolling contracts of up to 10 youth team scouts to expire.

Arsenal hope that at least some, if not all, of them will be able to return in the autumn when U23 and U18 games resume.
