Wonderful scenes as 102-year-old breaks into song singing 'The Wild Rover' while receiving the Covid-19 vaccine

This is the heartwarming moment 102-year-old John Hegarty broke into song while receiving his Covid-19 vaccination.

In the video the great grandfather from Glenties, Co Donegal, begins to sing The Dubliner's classic 'The Wild Rover' while waiting for the Covid jab.

His doctors and friends, Dr Cooke and Dr Evelyn, start to sing with John as they inject the life-saving vaccine into his system.

John has been waiting for this moment for a long time according, to his granddaughter Stephanie Hegarty.

"In my granddad's words, 'It has the whole world upside down'," she told the Irish Mirror.

"He's been missing visitors quite a lot and doesn't see anyone these days.

"He's waiting on people to get vaccinated as he’s hoping it will get the world back to normal and so that his visitors can return.

"He’s missing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren but he’s great as he’ll talk to them on FaceTime and he even recorded a video last Easter and Christmas wishing all his family and friends well."

When John was told about the video being viewed thousands of times he was thrilled but also worried, asking if his "hair had been combed".

John is still waiting for his second dose of the vaccine but has certainly brought a well-needed smile to people's faces in these tough times.
