This is the wonderful moment an NHS nursing apprentice sang and played the piano to lift the spirits of her colleagues battling against coronavirus.

Hanna Gingell, 20, performed a stunning rendition of Andra Day’s “Rise Up” during a break while working on the intensive care unit at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.

The hospital said fellow heathcare workers were brought to tears as Ms Gingell performed in the building's main atrium.

Sharing the performance on Twitter, the hospital said: “One of our Critical Care superstars inspired her colleagues as she played the piano @RoyalPapworthHospital.

“Thank you Hannah for this beautiful reminder of perseverance and hope for all of the NHS staff in the fight against Covid-19.”

A spokesman for the hospital also said: “To hear Hannah play in the main atrium during her break brought tears to our eyes.

“Royal Papworth Charity has shared the beautiful reminder that we are all in this together and as such all NHS staff will rise up in the fight against Covid-19.”

The hospital is currently raising money for their Covid-19 fund, with money going towards staff support, research and patient welfare in relation to the virus.
