'Wonderful' Danilo verdict delivered as Nottingham Forest talent shows his potential

Opening his account for Nottingham Forest was a sign of the progress Danilo has been making, according to head coach Steve Cooper.

The 21-year-old bagged his first goal for the club since his January move when he scored a peach against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday night. It capped a fine performance from the Brazilian, who was announced as Player of the Match in the Reds’ 3-1 win.

Cooper recognises Danilo’s great potential and has been keen to manage him carefully as he adapts to English football. But the youngster has recently been impressing in training, just as he did at the City Ground in midweek.

"He's been doing well. He'll probably catch the eye a little bit more because of the goal, but we're very happy with his progress,” Cooper said.

"We feel like we have managed him into the team sensibly, in terms of his age, where he's come from, getting used to England and the language. There are loads of things you don't quite see until you see him on the pitch. But we pay a lot of attention to training, and we've gradually seen what we wanted to see from him.

"He's a wonderful lad. A great guy. He's starting to look really settled now, on and off the pitch.

"I'm really pleased he got his first goal. I'm also really pleased Felipe got his first win.

"Keylor (Navas) doesn't get distracted by much, but with how he's been for us, I'm so pleased we won. He made an unbelievable save at 0-0.

"There are loads of positives from the night. But the only thing on my mind now is Brentford on Saturday.”
