'Wonderful' Alder Hey nurse mum was 'the glue that held the family together'

The family of a "brilliant and caring" Alder Hey nurse who collapsed and died have paid heartfelt tributes to the sister they called "the glue that kept the family together".

Jane Baxter, 43, from Litherland collapsed on Tuesday, June 2 when she was taking her dog on an early morning walk.

Her two children Isabelle, 14 and Harry, 11 are still struggling to come to terms with losing their mum.

Jane’s sister, Sue Baxter, 53, said that she had received a call early in the morning to say her sister had collapsed.

Emergency services took Jane to Fazakerley Hospital but she never regained consciousness and died later the same day.

More tests still need to be carried out to find out the cause of her death.

Sue said the response they have had from her sister's colleagues and friends has been amazing, but described the pain the family are going through, saying: "She was the glue that held us all together.

"If Jane had a penny in her pocket and that’s all she had, she would give you the coat that the penny was in.

"That’s how generous she was."

Jane's 14-year-old daughter, Isabelle, spoke lovingly of her mum.

She said: "She was a wonderful person. She was a good mum who did everything she could.

"She gave me and our Harry a good life and she cared for everyone."

Jane had worked as a nursery nurse before retraining as a paediatrics nurse in 2003.

After qualifying, she began working for Alder Hey children's hospital, a job her sister, Lorna, said she loved.

Lorna said: "She has always loved children It was her calling.

"We were very close, especially growing up, she was my shadow.

"We were partners in crime.

"We did everything together, we shared a room, we shared bunk beds. Where I went Jane went.

"She was bubbly, she was caring and she was devoted to her children – absolutely devoted, they were her world.

"It’s a tragedy have lost her so young. It’s heartbreaking."

A Gofundme page has been set up for Jane's two children to help them in a future without their mum.

Jane's sister, Lorna, summed up the "incredible warmth" people have shown toward's Isabelle and Harry in messages posted on the fundraising page.

She said: "It’s nice for Harry and Isabelle to read what people have said and how much they appreciated their mum.

"And how much she touched their lives. It’s something for them to read in the future."

Jane Baxter's funeral will be held next Tuesday, June 16.
