Wonder Man finally dropped a full trailer and Marvel studios is ready to take us inside of Hollywood. New York Comic Con hosted a Marvel Television panel this weekend, highlighting next year’s TV slate. One of the biggest titles that we know very little about is Wonder Man. And, with the brand new trailer, we understand even more of what’s coming in this Hollywood industry homage series. Marvel is playing it very coy with all the footage so far, and the new trailer decided to let people in just a little bit more.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is the star of Wonder Man, Simon Williams, and his character is looking to fulfill a childhood dream by getting this role. We should explain, Wonder Man seems to occur inside the MCU, but there’s also some meta shenanigans going on because Marvel Studios exists and there was a previous Wonder Man movie. After seeing it as a child with his father, its become a core memory for Williams as an actor. Nothing would mean more to this performer than playing the role he enjoyed as a child.
That wildness alone would be enough to entice most Marvel fans to check out this strange little limited series. But, then we also have Trevor Slattery auditioning for the role of Wonder Man. There’s some fun interplay between Abdul-Mateen and Ben Kingsley in this trailer. Both men talk about their approach to auditions as Simon Williams can’t get into the character of Wonder Man without crafting an elaborate backstory for the man. (Slattery dryly calls his process stupid, and encourages the younger actor to just read what’s on the page.)
Wonder Man trailer brings us back Trevor Slattery
Before you think that there’s no MCU tie-ins for Wonder Man, the people holding the auditions are amused with Slattery’s presence. One of them notes that he bears a resemblance to The Mandarin from Iron Man III. (He totally was, and he knows Shang-Chi now! Will we get to see Morris?) So, there’s something more than a little bit strange about whatever’s going on with this Wonder Man movie in-universe too!
It seems like Simon’s audition didn’t go too badly because he ends up at director Von Kovak (a delightfully eccentric Zlatko Burić, fresh off of being dropped from a very tall height in Superman. He’s looking for the perfect actor to be his new franchise star, and it looks like Simon is going to have some competition. Actors are doing vocal warm-ups, there’s multiple shots of waiting in-line for auditions, and our hero keeps bugging his agent for updates. It’s a full-on showbiz satire baby!

Viewers should know that Wonder Man isn’t debuting on Disney+ until January 27, 2026. Marvel originally slated the show for the tail-end of this year. But, as Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum told EW, “We don’t want it to get swallowed up by people watching Home Alone and Die Hard and Elf.” That means all eight episodes are going to premiere early in the new year. Hope everyone’s ready for the most Meta Marvel project you’ve seen since She-Hulk!
