August is a boy who is facing the prospect of going to Middle School. This is difficult for him because he has never been to school before and his face is badly disfigured so he is dreading people's reactions to him.
Fortunately he makes a very good friend on his first day and this boy, Jack, sits with him all the time and looks after him. He doesn't actually get bullied but the other children just make him feel different. However, when he goes on a school camp, some children from another school try to attack him and the reaction of the "cool kids" from his school is very interesting.
The book has several sections and these are told from several points of view which keeps the reader knowing how all the characters are feeling. I liked this structure because you knew exactly what was going on in everyone's heads. It was a definite page turner and I enjoyed it very much. At the end of this book there was some special content called "the Julian chapter" which gave you some more insight into one of the characters. I give this book 9/10.
