Won’t tolerate religious frenzy: Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami

DEHRADUN: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said his government “would not tolerate any kind of religious frenzy in the state.”

He said, “Orders in this regard have been issued to state and police authorities. Strict action will be initiated against anyone found involved in such activities. Our teams are also keeping track of social media posts.”

The statement comes in the wake of the brutal murder of a tailor in Udaipur over a social media post that he had shared in support of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who made remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

The CM maintained that people have voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party due to the works done by the state government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance. “We will live up to peoples' expectations. Our government is working towards the overall development of the society," said the CM.

He also warned anti-social elements of strict action if any attempt to breach peace and communal harmony was made on social media.

“We have asked concerned departments – police, home and district administrations – to keep a tab on social media and take action against anyone found guilty of creating religious frenzy in the state,” he added.
