WOMEN'STEC shows girls it's #notjustforboys

A new project is aiming to bring females into industries where they’ve been traditionally underrepresented.

WOMEN’STEC launched the #notjustforboys programme on Thursday.

The project will offer girls of all ages support to access work experience, work placements and apprenticeships, aiming to challenge misconceptions and to encourage females to consider wider career choices.

Girls will also be able to explore and upskill in areas such as electrics, plumbing, carpentry, tiling, DIY, and painting and decorating.

Lynn Carvill, Chief Executive of WOMEN’STEC said: “Further to piloting a number of aspects of the programme over the last year, we are very excited to be launching the innovative #notjustforboys programme and website.

“The need for skilled workers within the construction industry has been identified and this programme will raise awareness of the rewarding and well paid jobs available to everyone, including girls.

“Girls are often directed towards traditional career paths such as hair and beauty. The #notjustforboys programme will connect girls with a wide range of exciting career

pathways, enhancing their lifetime opportunities and simultaneously meet the needs of employers across the wider construction industry.”

This exciting new initiative is supported by the Construction Industry Training Board NI, The Housing Executive, Gilbert-Ash Ltd, JP Corry and the Urban Villages Initiative.
