Women stage protest against erratic water supply

Women staged a protest on Thursday against what they called erratic water supply in parts of Belagavi. They carried empty pots and shouted slogans against the Government and Larsen & Toubro, the private company which is in-charge of water supply in the city.

The women blocked Bauxite Road for a few minutes and shouted slogans against the Government. They gheraoed Member of Legislative Assembly Anil Benake, who arrived at the spot.

The MLA told the protesting women that he had warned the private company officials that he would tie them to a tree and beat them up if they failed to provide enough water to the city. He repeated the warning before company officials when they arrived at the protest spot.

The company officials said that the water scarcity had arisen due to emergent repair works. The MLA asked them to quickly complete the repair works and streamline the water supply. He assured the women that he would follow up the matter with the company officials and other government bodies.
