Women spends more than £3,000 on 'self wedding' - and says vows in front of a mirror

A woman has opened up about her 'self wedding', and why exactly holding a wedding ceremony just for herself felt like such an important act of self-love. Just like many brides the world over, Danni, 30, celebrated her wedding day accompanied by supportive bridesmaids, with family and friends in attendance.

Unlike the majority of brides, however, Danni was choosing to make a lifelong promise to herself, and nobody else, saying her solemn vows to her own reflection.

Danni married herself on December 10, 2022, spending more than £3,000 ($4,000) on her special day. Although some of her loved ones initially dismissed the idea as 'crazy', they now think it's kind of 'cool'.

Although they were unsure at first, her family has since come around the the idea (Dr. Phil /Youtube)

Footage of Danni's unique wedding shows the officiant, who is also one of her friends, asking the bride if she 'promised to never give up, give herself grace, and value herself'.

Then, making her vows before her wedding guests, Danni declared 'I do', before planting a kiss on her own mirrored reflection.

Danni recently opened up about her self-love ceremony during a special Valentine's Day episode of Dr Phil, entitled 'Forget You, I'm Marrying Myself'.

Explaining why the ceremony was of such great importance to her, Danni told Dr Phil: "I grew up going to weddings my whole life, and I was taught that they were about love, joy, commitment, you know, so I wanted to show that and share that with my family and my friends.

"[I] experienced a lot of traumatic things growing up and in my younger days, and so I didn't always have self-love, I didn't always give myself everything that I needed, and I went on this long therapeutic journey.

"I stopped drinking, stopped having sex, and I said now it's time I went to therapy, it's time to marry myself. I have something that I've never had before, and my cup is full."

She continued: "I overcame a lot of trauma, and it inspired me to marry myself. I realised I wasn't living for myself and this wedding was my chance to start over."

Although Danni accepts that not everyone will understand her decision, she strongly believes 'there is no such thing as overdoing celebrating yourself'.
