1) With the Women’s World Cup kicking off on Saturday in Canada it seems appropriate to rifle through the archives for some iconic moments of previous competitions. Brandi Chastain’s celebration after her winning penalty in 1999 is hard to beat but Abby Wambach’s last-gasp equaliser for the USA 12 years later comes pretty close. Other highlights include: Marta’s wonder goal for Brazil in 2007; Wambach up to her old tricks again, but this time in vain; the fastest red card in Women’s World Cup history and it wouldn’t a World Cup without penalty woe for England.
2) Istanbul – famed for the Blue Mosque, the Bosphorus, straddling two continents … and skating apparently.
3) Before the Special One came the Brooding Translator. This footage of José Mourinho as Bobby Robson’s right-hand man, without a grey hair on his head, is a must watch.
4) Ever wondered how you get Chris Gayle to buy you a beer?
5) What were you doing with your life at 15? Probably not this. And what were you doing during the FA Cup final? Probably not this.
6) Rugby union’s Junior World Cup is currently going on in Italy with England looking to defend the crown they won under the captaincy of Maro Itoje, one of the sport’s brightest young things. Here’s a pretty good insight into why he’s so highly rated.
Our favourites from last week’s blog
1) UFC’s Sean O’Connell gains psychological edge at the weigh-in.
2) Those of a nervous disposition may want to look away now. This, meanwhile, is just showing off.
3) Baseball fan catch of the week (starring beer and a bat).
5) What is headis you ask? Head table tennis of course.
6) Insane football booking of the week: Maxi Rodríguez sees yellow for Newell’s Old Boys, due to being captain of a team with a player who came out on to the pitch holding a baby.
