Women's World Cup 2019: Brazil superstar Marta provides injury update in race to play in France

Brazil star Marta is optimistic she will fully recover from a left thigh injury before the women’s World Cup starts in France next month.

Speaking for the first time since was injured in training in Portugal last Friday, the 33-year-old Marta said in a video released by Brazil’s football confederation that she expects to return to action “very soon.”

The confederation said Saturday that Marta had suffered a left thigh muscle injury and would need need physical therapy for a week before undertaking another fitness test.

And coach Vadao insists he is not worried about Marta’s condition.

“Marta is still Marta, and she could make the difference in this World Cup,” he said.

While midfielder Formiga has attempted to ease the pressure on Marta.

“We can’t hope that she will solve everything, be a ninja on the pitch, score from corner kicks,” Formiga told daily Folha de S.Paulo.

“She is a different kind of player, but sometimes that made us too comfortable, we thought she would never stop.”
