Women's T20 World Cup: Bowling coach's inputs helped Deepti Sharma, says skipper Harmanpreet Kaur

Deepti Sharma was hungry for success after not being happy with her performance in the game against Pakistan, which is what spurred her on, said India captain Harmanpreet Kaur about Deepti's match-winning spell against West Indies in the group game of the Women's T20 World Cup in Cape Town on Wednesday.

India defeated the West Indies comprehensively by six wickets, led by Deepti's three wickets (3/15), which restriced the Windies to 118/6 after they won the toss and opted to bat first.

Deepti's spell also took her to the landmark of becoming the first Indian to take 100 T20I wickets and was named the 'Player of the Match'.

Richa Ghosh (44 not out) and skipper Harmanpreet (33) saw India across the finish line with 11 balls to spare as they moved level with Group B leaders England, who they play on Saturday, on net run-rate.

On a track favourable to spinners in Gqeberha, Sharma will once again be the key; and crucially for India, she heads into that fixture in fine form.

"It was a great day for us. Whatever we were expecting, we were able to do, especially our bowling. We discussed about Deepti's bowling in the team meeting and she was not happy with the last game (against Pakistan). The bowling coach (Troy Cooley) helped her and today she got the results," Harmanpreet said in a post-match presentation.

Harmanpreet also lauded Richa for her brilliant innings.

"I'm really happy she's in that form because she is a very dangerous batter whenever she expresses herself," said the skipper.
