Women's running hats: should you wear a hat while working out?

It would appear that collectively we've reached peak exercise.

Where pre-lockdown our Saturdays would be propped up by visits to the pub, friends' houses or various other alcohol-fuelled activities, recent weeks have seen us propel ourselves into the realm of exercise-lovers.

Our allocated hours' worth of daily exercise has seen many of us tug on our decaying gym gear - or invest in a whole new get-up - and waddle along to the nearest and most expansive park or green space.

But as the temperatures slowly begin to increase, it may be worth your time considering introducing a hat into your running repertoire.

Not only does it work wonders in disguising your identity - a factor novice runners like myself will no doubt rejoice at - but wearing a hat while running can also protect the skin from sun damage, it can also shade your eyes from the sun and - depending on the speed at which you run - can also act as a barrier to stop sweat from getting in your eyes.

There's also evidence to suggest that how you look – or more importantly how you think you look – plays a huge psychological role in performance. Dubbed “enclothed cognition” the term comes from research that strongly suggests what we wear and how we (perceive) we look can hugely affect performance.

So, what're you waiting for? The time has come to elevate your workout game to the next level and nab a hat.
