- The shortlist for this year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction has been revealed, featuring six novels, with a notable four of them being debut works.
- The debut authors nominated are Addie E Citchens for Dominion, Virginia Evans for The Correspondent, Marcia Hutchinson for The Mercy Step, and Rozie Kelly for Kingfisher.
- They are joined by two established American novelists, Susan Choi with her sixth book Flashlight, and Lily King with her seventh novel Heart the Lover.
- Julia Gillard, former Prime Minister of Australia and chair of the judging panel, praised the novels for their ability to "intrigue and profoundly move" the judges, highlighting their examination of life's challenges and moments of joy.
- The winner of the prestigious £30,000 prize, which also includes a statuette known as the “Bessie”, will be announced on Thursday 11 June.
