Women's only gym where you can feel 'more confident than ever before'

A women's only gym has opened dedicated to keeping women "safe and comfortable" when exercising.

Katy Maddock, Ashley Birss and Lucie Maddocks decided they wanted to open their own safe space for women to train and learn about exercise after they met while all working at Pure Gym. Katy and Ashley were personal trainers at the time with Lucie being the assistant manager of their gym.

The three found that women often didn't feel comfortable in the weights area of the gym and decided they wanted to save up to try and make their dream a reality. Speaking to the ECHO ahead of the opening of GirlCode, Katy, 26, said: "We noticed women hated being in the weights area.

"We decided to save up some money to open our own gym. We found a unit that was up available and it was just perfect so we went for it. It's just for women to be safe and comfortable while working out.

"We noticed a lot of women would go to the gym and just do cardio so we're focusing on resistance training where we also educate people about the exercises."

The gym, which opens today on Cashel Road in Wallasey, will host a number of classes throughout the week aimed at beginners, seasoned gymgoers and over 50s. Katy added: "We have worked so hard for years to build our dream vision and we've finally brought it to life.

It's taken a lot of work, risks, setbacks, and investing all we have but we know women are going to have a place to come and forget the outside world and feel safe, which is everything we strive for. We have spent years creating a brand that breaks the gym anxiety and empowers women to become the best version of themselves completely free of judgement - that is our mission.

"You will see our gym is made up of a lot of free weights to help women feel comfortable lifting weights and feeling their strongest selves. Our goal is to educate, empower and transform and one of our team will always be there to help.

"For so many women the idea of stepping into a gym can be so daunting so we are here to make that entire process so much easier. This is not just a gym, this is not just somewhere to exercise, but somewhere where you can step away from the outside world and forget about everything else and walk out that door feeling more confident than ever before."
