Women's Merseyside derby called OFF for safety reasons

Everton Women's Super League clash with Liverpool has been called off for safety reasons.

The Merseyside derby was taking place at Goodison Park this afternoon, but following the arrival of Storm Ciara the match has now been postponed.

Everton shared a statement to their official Twitter account which read: "Today’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool FC Women has been postponed.

"The adverse weather conditions including high winds on Merseyside, caused by Storm Ciara, have made travelling to the match and the area around Goodison Park dangerous.

"The decision to postpone the fixture was made by Club officials in conjunction with Merseyside Police, match officials, safety experts on the grounds of the safety of both sets of supporters.

"Details of the re-arranged fixture and associated ticketing information will be released in the coming days."

The match was close to being a sell out with all four stands sold out and tickets only available in the Upper Bullens section of the ground.

It was set to be another historic occasion following the derby which was held at Anfield in November which saw Willie Kirk's side run out 1-0 winners.
