Thank you so much for joining me for this game. Poland have made history and sign off of their first-ever Euros with their first goals and win. For Denmark it is a tournament to forget with three losses from three games. For all the details, read the pinned post at the top of the blog. We shall be back tomorrow for Group D’s final matches, see you then.
Match report
Poland’s Natalia Padilla-Bidas scored her country’s first goal at a major women’s tournament in a 3-2 victory over Denmark to end their European Championship debut on a high note.
Both teams had already been eliminated from quarter-final contention but Saturday’s match confirmed final group placings with Poland finishing third and Denmark fourth.
Bayern Munich’s Padilla-Bidas brought the Polish fans to their feet at Allmend Stadion with her historic strike in the 12th minute when a loose ball fell at her feet and she fired home.
Ewa Pajor, Poland’s all-time leading goalscorer, doubled their lead eight minutes later when she intercepted the ball in the midfield, laid it out to Padilla-Bidas then charged to the back post to head it in.
Janni Thomsen pulled one back in the 59th minute but Poland restored their two-goal lead when substitute Martyna Wiankowska struck from the edge of the box, firing the ball in off the bar. Denmark, runners-up at Euro 2017, replied in the 83rd minute when Signe Bruun headed in Katrine Veje’s pinpoint cross. Reuters

Wales have a chance to progress from the group and in the process knock out England. Here is what Wales captain Angharad James had to say about the game:
Here’s an interesting read on the Netherlands’ Euro 2025 campaign:
Tomorrow’s matches sees France taking on the Netherlands and England facing Wales. Here are the permutations as per the tournament website:
France will reach the quarter-finals if they avoid defeat by the Netherlands by a margin of three goals or more, or regardless if England do not beat Wales. France will finish first if they avoid defeat.
England will reach the quarter-finals if they beat Wales, or if England draw and the Netherlands do not beat France; else if England avoid defeat by four goals or more and the Netherlands lose. England will finish first if they win and the Netherlands beat France by a margin of fewer than seven goals.
Netherlands will reach the quarter-finals if they beat France by three goals or more, or with any win if England do not beat Wales; else with a draw if England lose. Netherlands will finish first if they win by seven goals or more, or with any win if England do not beat Wales.
Wales will reach the quarter-finals if they beat England by four goals or more and the Netherlands lose to France.
The Polish players are celebrating and some look emotional. They may have been knocked out before kick-off today but they secured history with their first Euros win. It’s a huge day in Polish football.

In the other game in this group, it has ended in a 4-1 win for Sweden. It means they top the group and Germany go through as runners-up. Their opponents in the quarter-final will be confirmed tomorrow in the Group D matches.
Full time: Poland 3-2 Denmark
Poland have a slice of history. They end their debut Euros with their first goal and win with an impressive 3-2 victory over Denmark. Remember Denmark were the runners-up in the 2017 tournament and so this is a big statement from Poland. They may already be out but it’s a huge building block for them to look to the future with. For Denmark though, they end the tournament with no points and are bottom of the group. Of their three performances, the only one where they showed real fight was against Germany and they will be frustrated with how this major tournament has gone for them. But tonight is Poland’s for their famous first win.

90 + 3 min: My word Nadim almost had the equaliser there, Szemik had an incredible save to keep that out. Take a bow.
90 + 1 min: There will be four minutes added. Nadim tries to take advantage from a blunder in the Polish defence but Szemik saves.
89 min: The delivery is aimed at the near post but it’s repelled and Thomsen pops it back in. Her cross has too much on it though and it’s out for a goal kick.
88 min: It’s such a shame Harder had her injury so early in this game as I think she would have been amongst the goalscorers tonight. She is such a legend for Denmark and it’s a cruel way for her tournament to end. Back to the action and Denmark win another corner.
87 min: Poland are on the attack again and this time Slowinska launches a long range shot but it doesn’t trouble Bay.
85 min: Denmark are fired up now after that goal, they can smell a point on the board and it’s crossed in but popped out for a corner. Thomsen takes the set piece but it’s headed clear by Pajor.

Bruun has had so many chances and it feels deserved for her to be on the scoresheet. It was a peach of a cross that came in and Bruun’s heads it home.

GOAL! Poland 3-2 Denmark (Bruun, 83)
She finally has her goal.
82 min: Poland make another change with Slowinska on for Kamczyk, what a shift she has put in for her nation tonight. Denmark also make a change with Vangsgaard on for Thogersen.
80 min: Denmark win a free kick in a good position. They take it short and Bredgaard then pops it into the area but Poland deal with it easily. They then counter and Nadim is forced to put in a foul, and receives a yellow card, to stop the attack.
78 min: What a perfect response from Poland. They conceded and then Denmark thought they had their equaliser but after a VAR check it was ruled out. Now Poland have restored their two goal lead. A bit of a mad game this one.
Pajor launches the ball into the area, Padilla mishits and it comes to Wiankowska who whallops it home. A lovely move.

GOAL! Poland 3-1 Denmark (Wiankowska, 77)
Wow.
76 min: What a save from Szemik as Thomsen sends in a huge shot, she punches clear to stop Denmark once again.
75 min: Poland win a corner and the delivery is good, it looked like one from the training ground, but Denmark scramble and clear.
73 min: Ignore my nice sentiments about Nadim’s swansong moment. The VAR check was so quick. Denmark are still on top though and so it still feels as though it is coming.
NO GOAL! Poland 2-1 Denmark
It’s been ruled out for offside.
It was scrappy but Denmark won’t care. It kept pinballing in the box and she gets a left footed shot away. In her final game for Denmark, that one will be special for her.

GOAL! Poland 2-2 Denmark (Nadim, 70)
Poetic.
70 min: Bruun was almost in again, that’s her third close effort but she can’t get it out from under her feet.
68 min: Denmark are increasing the pressure as they hunt for the equaliser but Poland still have just enough in the energy stores to repel them, they do look like they’re tiring though so it wouldn’t be surprising if Denmark found a way through.
66 min: Poland make another change with Achcinska off for Jedlinska.
64 min: Nadia Nadim, who has just entered the game, will play her last minutes of international football in this match after having announced she will retire from Denmark duty following this tournament. A great role model and forward has one last dance.
62 min: It will be interesting to see how both teams react to that goal now. So far Poland haven’t shrunk, in fact they have done the opposite and had a chance with Achcinska popping one wide. Hasbo is off for K Holmgaard and Nadim is on for S Holmgaard as Denmark make changes.
Thomsen has a powerful strike and Szemik blocks it with both hands but it bounces over her head and it’s in. A disappointing moment for the keeper who has had a good game other than that blunder.

GOAL! Poland 2-1 Denmark (Thomsen, 60)
There it is.

59 min: Poland make two changes with Kokosz and Wiankowska on for Tomasiak and Matysik.
58 min: A lovely bit of build-up play feeds Thomsen but her effort is well saved by Szemik.
56 min: Bruun wants a penalty as she gets in the area and she is tackled. She feels it’s a foul from Matysik but nothing is given, the Polish defender threw herself at that and it was a good but of defending. It would have been a very soft penalty if it was given.
54 min: Poland win a free kick and Zieniewicz’ delivery sees Bruun head it out for a throw. It’s then rebuffed by the Danes and they come forward with Bredgaard popping in a long range effort but Szemik saves. She concedes a corner but it’s well defended by Poland.
52 min: Poland again have so much space in the midfield to come streaming forward but they see it out for a Denmark throw. A goal feels like its coming.
51 min: Tomasiak has a great run down the left and she battles into the ares. She passes to Padilla who sees it wide, that should have been the third for Poland.
49 min: Poland peel forward as they look to try and secure a historic result. It is one amazing thing to score your first Euros goal and it is another amazing thing to win your first game. Both things could be achieved for Poland this evening but this time they are judged offside. Denmark counter and they get into the box with Bredgaard, who is making her first appearance at the tournament, taking a shot but it’s saved.
47 min: My esteemed colleague Scott Murray has worked out a table for Group C with the scores as they are right now and this is how it looks as it stands:
1. Sweden P3 W3 D0 L0 F7 A1 GD6 Pts 9
2. Germany P3 W2 D0 L1 F5 A4 GD1 Pts 6
3. Poland P3 W1 D0 L2 F2 A5 GD-3 Pts 3
4. Denmark P2 W0 D0 L3 F1 A5 GD-4 Pts 0
Thank you for that Scott.
Back underway: Poland 2-0 Denmark
Can Poland continue their dominance in this match? Or will Denmark fight back? All to come.
What a moment for Poland, it’s one Natalia Padilla will never forget:
Half-time in the other match in this group sees Sweden lead Germany 3-1. For all the updates on that game, read our blog:
Half-time: Poland 2-0 Denmark
Well that was a poor 45 minutes from Denmark. They need to tighten up in defence or Poland could really ramp this score up. The half if have a moment of history with Padilla scoring Poland’s first-ever goal at a women’s Euros.
45 + 2 min: Bruun has another chance and her header is saved well this time by Szemik. She concedes a corner in the process but the delivery is poor.
Updated
45 + 1 min: Bruun has a shot and it rattles the cross bar, the closest Denmark have come all game. There are two minutes added.
45 min: Denmark were building but they just falter at the last hurdle, they are so frustrating to watch.
44 min: Pawollek’s delivery is good but Szemik reads it well and she collects.
Updated
42 min: Denmark have a corner after a loose pass from Tomasiak.
40 min: Denmark’s manager Andrée Jeglertz is looking so frustrated on the touchline and it’s clear to see why. His team have absolutely nothing going in this match and if the scoreline remains as it is, Denmark will end this tournament with no points.
38 min: Poland are in total control of this game at the moment, Denmark have not threaded more than a few passes together since Harder went off with injury.
36 min: You do have to feel for Poland, if they found themselves in a different group they may have got through but Germany and Sweden just proved too strong. In that game Sweden are winning 3-1 and Carlotta Wamser has been sent off for a deliberate handball.
33 min: The build-up play may be slow but Poland are keeping up the pressure. Szymczak takes a long range effort and Bay repels it but spills. She scrambles and gets it under control.
30 min: Poland have the chance to make it three but Padilla’s attempt is wide, she did a bit too much with that. If she simplified it that would’ve been in.
28 min: Sweden have taken the lead in the other game against Germany, so many goals this evening in Pool C. In this game Denmark are trying to find their way back into this one but Poland mop up the ball int he midfield. Tomasiak peels away and she makes an attempt by Bay collects.
25 min: Harder is down here receiving some treatment for a hamstring issue. It looked like she would be okay to continue but she walked over to the bench and shook her head. Harder is crying on the bench, what a frustrating tournament for the star. Bredgaard is on.
23 min: Poland showed signs of this attack in their matches against Germany and Sweden but they just couldn’t click enough. But in this game they are flying and they are taking the momentum in their stride.
Pajor has her goal and it was a beaut. It was won by the number nine and they work it forward. The cross comes in and she heads it home.

GOAL! Poland 2-0 Denmark (Pajor, 20)
Oh my.
18 min: Denmark’s Bruun launched a long range effort but it was wide, that would have been some strike if it went in.
16 min: The goal for Poland’s Padilla means both debut teams have scored at Euro 2025. Wales found theirs against France and Poland had theirs a few minutes ago.
15 min: In the other game Sweden have equalised through Blackstenius. Goals galore.
They streamed forward on a counter and it was squared so nicely into the box. Pajor can’t get to it but it comes to Padilla who doesn’t miss. Their first ever goal at a women’s Euros.

Updated
GOAL! Poland 1-0 Denmark (Padilla, 13)
History.
13 min: Denmark had so much space in the box despite Poland having around six players in there themselves, luckily for Poland Denmark squander the chance.
11 min: In the other game Germany have taken an early lead through Brand and so as it stands they top the group. In this match, Denmark are slowly building into this.
9 min: Denmark are loose at the back and Poland pounce but they don’t release a shot quickly enough with the Danes able to scramble clear. They counter and Harder gets it in the box and Thomsen sends it over the bar – that should have been a goal.
8 min: Denmark try to piece a play together but Harder’s pass has too much on it and so there is a goal kick.
6 min: Poland are bright in the early stages but they are rushing their final touches and passes. If they shore those up they will have more joy in front of goal. Just as I type that Denmark attack with Harder’s strike just wide.
4 min: A lovely ball re-ignited Poland’s attack and Pawolleck attempts to lob the keeper but Bay is wise to it.
2 min: Poland have started well and Pajor got into the penalty area but she is smothered off of the ball.
Kick-off! Poland 0-0 Denmark
Here we go.

Ben Mock has emailed:
Denmark and Poland both have some top-notch cheeses. My personal favorites are Fynbo and Maribo from Denmark and Oscypek from Poland. Poland is also great for meats (Kielbasa and Kabanos are personal highlights!)
Hope to see a better showing from Denmark today, disappointed with them this entire tournament. And of course, rooting for Poland to avoid becoming the first-ever team not to score at their debut Euros!
That’s a not so fun fact for Polish fans if they do fail to score today. I think Ewa Pajor may get one this evening.
Sweden v Germany is kicking off at the same time as this one, at 8pm BST, and the Guardian are also bringing you all the updates for that one. You can keep up to date here:
I’d love to hear from you and as always a bit of snack chat is always welcome. In England there is a major heatwave at the moment so I will be exclusively eating ice poles for this one. You can get in touch via email, of course any thoughts on the Euros are also welcome.
Here’s a nice piece to have a read of before kick-off:
Here’s how Group B shook out yesterday:
Andrée Jeglertz, Denmark coach, added from the Danish camp:
It’s about winning. We have played two of the best teams in the world and we needed to play in a different way against them. Tomorrow we will get a little more space and a little more time on the ball. Hopefully, we can dominate the ball and play a different kind of game.
Nina Patalon, Poland coach, has said:
I would like us to score a goal and make history. We have a positive attitude and I repeat once again this will also be a special match. I wouldn’t say that Denmark is an easier opponent than Germany and Sweden. The Danes are very versatile and we will have to adapt to them. I hope it will be a good match.

Both teams have already been knocked out but that won’t stop them from fighting tooth and nail for the win. Poland and Denmark lost their opening two matches to Germany and Sweden and so they will be keen not to come away with no points.

The team news will be out shortly and so stay tuned before kick-off at 8pm BST.
